M2TS files are commonly used in SONY and Panasonic camcoders. The files are compressed using AVCHD format at nearly 15:1 ratio. M2TS files are also present on Blu-ray disc.

One of an easy wary to play M2TS file is using the commercial software CyberLink PowerDVD 8 Ultra.

The free software VLC Media Player can also playback most m2ts files. Thoug in a few cases it can't play some m2ts files, it is worth being installed on your computer as a multimedia player.
