MPEG-4
MPEG-4 is an ISO/IEC standard that is designed to represent and deliver audio and video streams over a wide range of bandwidths. MPEG-4 provides ways to:
  • Represent media objects (units of images, video, audio);
  • Composite media objects to form audiovisual scenes;
  • Multiplex and synchronize the data associated with media objects so that they can be tranported overnetwork;
  • Interact with the audiovisual scene at the receiver’s end.
MPEG-4 is designed to deliver scalable quality video from cell phones to satellite television. It can deliver DVD-quality video (MPEG-2) at lower data rates. The MPEG-4 part 10 (aka H.264) provides means to deliver highest video quality at remarkably low data rates.
